DailyMotion Problems [en]

[fr] Un problème avec DailyMotion, heureusement réglé. Si vous n'avez pas pu voir la vidéo où je fais la bobette derrière Robert Scoble, c'est le moment d'y aller!

You probably know I like DailyMotion. I posted some feedback about DailyMotion yesterday, and bumped into some naughty problems today.

The problem with DailyMotion is that it doesn’t have a nice forum or a real devblog like coComment where we can leave feedback. So I’m posting it to my blog and tagging it in hope it will be found. By the way, I’ve been wondering what the best place is for this kind of feedback: here or on the Cheese Sandwich Blog? What’s your take?

After LIFT’06, I put this video of Robert being interviewed online and wrote a post about it here. Unfortunately, it seems at least one of my readers is not able to view it . (I guess there are at least 20 of you out there who just didn’t tell me about it.) The message says something about a key not being valid for this blog.

DailyMotion allows you to blog your videos directly from the site. That’s neat, but as I’m a control freak, I like dealing with the code myself. Back in November I had posted a video to my other blog, so I grabbed the code from over there, adapted it (video id), and it seemed to work. Actually, that was because I was still logged in to my DailyMotion account.

I first tried adding CTTS to my DailyMotion account, as a second blog. That failed (error message, just doesn’t work). As I was writing this post, I tried logging out of DailyMotion, and actually saw the message all my poor readers have been seeing these last days! In a click of my trackpad I was able to fix everything.

So, if you haven’t seen me goofing off behind Robert Scoble as David and Marc-O try to podcast him (red wine and Apple hardware involved), now’s the time to do it! Sorry for the buggy post, and thanks a lot to Raphael for pointing out the problem to me.

I was having a post-LIFT chat with Marc-Olivier in the lounge yesterday when David came up, stole him from me and started talking about getting Robert to do a podcast with them for a blog they were going to open. I offered to introduce them to him.

I was going to take a couple of photographs but as they started, I decided for video instead. Think of it as a “making of” videocast of their podcast. (I say “wild” not because Robert went wild on the video but because it wasn’t planned, staged, or whatever. Vidéocasting sauvage would be how I’d put it in French.

My initial intention was to upload it straight away. I like the immediateness you can get with the web. (If moblogging wasn’t so bloody expensive I’d be moblogging away…) David actually asked me to hold off publishing the video and cut out some bits of it or put their audio on it, because they wanted to edit some of the audio (English mistakes in the questions, but IMHO, who cares?) I said I preferred to publish what I had recorded “as is”, mistakes, goofs, and all — it was OK with Robert.

I’m a bit embarrassed by the situation, to be honest. My video is on DailyMotion under a CC-by-sa-nc license, so they can put their audio on top if they like, whatever. I don’t really like having to refrain from publishing something, but on the other hand I am very much aware that if you appear on a video or a photograph, you have a right to control publication of it. I think what bothered me was the argument of “exclusivity”. My videocast is only about a third of the interview, anyway.

What would you have done? Should I have refrained from posting this until they had their version up?

I will of course be posting the link to their version(s) here as soon as I get it.

Busy with Photographs [en]

Finally importing my Indian videos (not ready yet). Lots of photos to see on Flickr, though.

I’ve finally decided to organise all my photographs in iPhoto, and I got a Flickr Pro account. I’ve been uploading like mad, so you should take a look at the photographs I have on Flickr. Use my tags to browse around if you feel like it.

I also borrowed a mini-DV camera from school and bought a large external hard disk so that I could import the few hours of film I took while I was in India last time. The low-quality videos you may already have seen are only a small sample of what I (and Anita!) shot.

L’école reprend, je répondrai donc aux commentaires et apporterai quelques précisions concernant ce que j’ai dit à  l’antenne d’ici quelques jours.

L’école reprend aujourd’hui, je n’ai donc pas le temps de répondre à  toutes vos remarques, et surtout, de préciser tout ce que je n’ai pas eu le temps de préciser à  l’antenne. 10 minutes de direct, c’est court, et je me rends compte en écoutant l’émission que j’ai pris quelques raccourcis qui méritent développement. Aussi, en lisant quelques réactions, je me rends compte que la situation d’interview n’a pas toujours été bien interprétée (entre autres, je n’ai pas été une pauvre chose impuissante manipulée par l’affreux journaliste!)

Donc, quelques jours de patience, et je répondrai à  vos e-mails et commentaires. En attendant, vous pouvez toujours écouter mon interview à  la Radio Suisse Romande ou aller voir mes photos de vacances… si vous les trouvez!

Blogueurs au Bout du Monde… [en]

La troisième Lemanic Bloggers Night, c’était bien!

…mais pas au bout de la vie!

La troisième Lemanic Bloggers Night a eu lieu hier soir, et c’était très sympa. 13 personnes présentes si ma mémoire est bonne, un record d’affluence! Les flashs ont crépité, la caméra vidéo a tourné, la bière et les discussions ont coulé à  flots. On se revoit dans trois mois (début juin?), si ce n’est avant.

Pas de wiki pour tenir compte des comptes-rendus, même si suite à  une question de celui de droite, j’ai perdu ma matinée à  changer le moteur dudit wiki, pour constater en fin de compte que cela ne réglait aucun problème.

Du coup, il va falloir que je fasse le ménage dans le système de trackbacks (ça laisse un peu à  désirer) — surtout qu’hier Jocelyn m’a posé des questions sur le sujet, ce qui m’a encore une fois confrontée à  l’état désastreux de mes connaissances sur le sujet!

Panne d'encre [en]

Tout va bien, nouvelles photos et vidéos, pas envie de trop écrire.

Tout va bien ici en Inde. Je mets en ligne de nouvelles videos (dans le répertoire “films”) et des photos (dans le répertoire “dumps”). Je passe relativement peu de temps dans les cafés internet, et j’ai presque envie de renoncer à  vérifier mes e-mails, tant les rares messages dignes de ce nom sont noyés dans le spam. Donc, si vraiment vous voulez me contacter par mail, faites en sorte que le sujet de votre mail le différencie bien de la masse de pourriel!

J’ai très peu envie d’écrire. Je lis beaucoup, par contre. Le café internet ne m’incite pas à  passer de longues heures devant l’écran — problèmes de clavier (aussi bien niveau dureté des touches que géographie des lettres) et moustiques sous le bureau, ainsi que la distance conséquente entre le lieu où je loge et le café le plus proche… c’est pas top, comme on dirait.

Mais il y a autre chose. C’est comme si depuis mon arrivée ici, vivre simplement les jours qui vont et viennent me suffisait. Je ne ressens pas le besoin de chroniquer, ni sur papier ni sur écran. Je prends des photos et des vidéos, et ça vous raconte un peu mon séjour. Ce n’est pas accessible, j’en conviens. Mais là , on dirait que je me retrouve dans une petite phase où j’en ai marre des mots. Plus tard, peut-être, une fois rentrée, je verserai par-ci par-là  quelques gouttes de mon séjour.

Everything fine, India is less adventurous, more photos and videos online.

India is clearly less adventurous than it was for me, and there is therefore less to tell. I guess I’m adapting to the place too well! I’m having a very nice quiet time here, between walking the Shinde dogs and going out to eat in various places.

I went to see The Last Samurai last night. My mid-day meal was the occasion of using up a roll of digital film (understand: a memory stick) shooting pictures of Madhav’s friends. The Crab&Beer photographs are now online for your viewing in the Dumps section. I’ve also made more videos you can go and see.

Obviously, I’m not getting a lot of access to the Internet. Nisha and Shinde do live pretty far off, so if I get to check my mail once every two or three days I consider myself lucky. Please don’t hesitate to use the marvels of modern technology (understand: SMS) if you need to get in touch — as I said, my phone number is in the comments to the entry before last.

Update: just a note (for Mark, particularly) concerning the camera. I left my fancy phone behind in Switzerland, and a collegue of mine lent me a pretty sexy Sony Handycam — that’s what I’m using for the photographs and videos. I’m doing many more videos on tape, but those will have to wait until my return to Switzerland to see the light of the web.

Vidéo: Grillade [en]

Dans le cadre de la visite guidée de Lausanne, je vous indiquais l’emplacement de la grillade de la semaine suivante. Virginie y était, et avec elle, une caméra vidéo digne de ce nom.

Le résultat ? Voici la vidéo de la grillade [57 MB.], filmée par votre serviteur et Virginie, et montée par cette dernière.

Projectionniste à  Lausanne [fr]

Outre les vidéos stupides que vous avez sans doute déjà  vues, nous avons également profité du week-end dernier pour tourner quelques séquences sur le métier de projectionniste et le Ciné Qua Non à  Lausanne où travaille Virginie (ma salle préférée, soit dit en passant).

Bien entendu, il faudrait pouvoir faire un joli montage de tout ça, mais nos moyens techniques sont pour le moment limités. Il vous faudra donc subir (!) les séquences telles quelles, sans édition ni censure aucune.

Tout d’abord, nous allons nous rendre dans les coulisses [1.6 Mb] du cinéma, où nous allons avoir droit à  une visite guidée de la cabine de projection [6.6 Mb]. Après un premier interview de Virginie [7.9 Mb], un deuxième interview de Virginie [7.5 Mb] et… encore un interview [4.1 Mb], c’est une visite guidée [8.0 Mb] en règle [7.9 Mb] (et en deux parties!) du cinéma qui nous attend…
