I said it, I did it. Here are all my web-related pet peeves in one place. Enjoy!
So I’ve just spent the last few hours running around the French-speaking web to hunt down some nice design sites… or worthwhile webmaster resources (I hate reinventing the wheel, you know, so before I start writing it all myself…)
Well I tell you… it’s depressing. Five years behind at the least. But even so… Five years ago, there was David Siegel.
Most of the french-speaking professionnal web designer’s sites I have found look more like some high-school kid’s first shot at it on tripod or xoom. And then, that’s not nice of me to say that for the high-school kids.
If you know of any well-designed French-speaking site, please leave a comment to let me know! I’ll be very happy to find it…
What wouldn’t I do for you, you lucky brats! I stayed up wayyy past my bedtime to finish my HTML Express tutorial. To be perfectly honest, I haven’t quite finished it (the part on tables has still to be written). But I was starting to be impatient about getting it up.
Oh, and a little rant on WYSIWYG editors. Please consume with a pinch of salt.
Run off and read the rants + raves section at k10k. I could add a couple of “me too!” posts up there.
Thanks to Heather, I found another interesting article in the Urban Legends Reference Pages: bonsai kittens.
Another couple of pet peeves. I guess I’m coming up with so many that I’ll have to concentrate them all in one place soon:
That’s all for now, folks!
I know I keep rambling about what I’m going to do – and I’m much slower at actually doing stuff. But on the whole, I think I’m not doing too bad (knowing me).
I’ve been working on the HTML Express tutorial. It will be up some day. I’ve started working on the culture shock notes. I’ve a few more deep thoughts (God bless those boring philosophy classes) waiting to be typed up.
I’m starting to seriously consider building an all-french web designing resource – from what I’ve seen, the french web is a little “behind” as far as designing issues are concerned. Blame the language barrier – they can’t read A List Apart if their English is only so good…
Finally, I might be giving a class on Internet Culture here in Lausanne. The aim of it being to introduce parents of school children to the world of the web, so that they have the means to follow their child’s work – and also be aware of the security and monitoring issues involving the web.
And if I do that, of course, a new set of documents will definately see the light of the day…
Oh yes! I almost forgot! Of course, I still have the project of feeding my blog entries into a database one day, so that I can serve them on “thematic” pages for you. That would be quite a lot of work though, and I am definately not going to take the time to learn MySQL just now.
I’m also seriously thinking of chopping up my long logbook pages into smaller units – a screen or two long. What do all you travel-library readers think about this?
