Nice Titles Here! [en]

Nice Titles are here for testing. Let me know if they make your life impossible. I might tweak the CSS a bit, so suggestions for the “aesthetic” side of things are welcome.

I’ve had a peek at Nice Titles and I think I like them.

How would you react to having them on this site?

Apologies for the French [en]

Apologies to my English-only readers. I’m kind of stuck in French these days. Don’t worry, there are “English” phases too 😉

Hiatus – Repetitive Strain Injury [en]

In case you hadn’t noticed, this site is on hiatus for medical reasons.

The pain in my wrists has not gone away. Actually, it got worse. Now that I’m keeping away from keyboards and mice as much as possible, the situation is a bit better.

My bet is that I have some form of RSI – I say it’s pretty mild, as I can still type, but my employer says serious, as the prospect of sick leave is looming up if nothing is done. For those of you in the US particularly, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is just one of the forms RSI can take, and I’m pretty sure I don’t have CTS.

Why do I have this? Nobody knows for sure, for the moment. Probably a combination of bad posture and long-time overuse of my body to make it do things it isn’t supposed to be doing (playing with mice and keyboards). Probably my nerves and tendons protesting pretty loudly. I have an appointment with a neurologist in a couple of weeks. We’ll see what he says.

I’ve ordered a whole bunch of ergonomical equipment at work, and I’m keeping an eye on my posture in front of the computer, as well as inserting a little bit of light excercise into my life. I’m waiting for my speech recognition program any day now.

If you have even mild pains in your elbows and wrists while or after using the computer (especially your “mouse wrist”), please don’t wait until it hurts “enough” to take it seriously and see a doctor. I had mild pains in my wrists and elbows for ages before they became so acute I just had to stop typing (over a few weeks’ time). The RSI mailing list is a great source of information.

New Links [en]

New links and organisation in the blogroll (on your right, if you have a css-compatible browser).

In particular, please check out and publicize Mithun’s weblog: he’s just arrived in the States from Pune, and having a public will encourage him to record his first impressions of the western world for posterity.

Cool, uh? I had honestly given up on it. Some time back, the previous owner let it expire, and it was grabbed by some domain-name pirate. Obviously, nobody was very interested in it, and the pirate let it go.

Offline [en]

I sneaked into my brother’s flat to write this (with his permission, of course). The modem cable is now completely dead, so I’m offline until I get a new one. Aleika is arriving this evening, so I’m not sure how soon that will be.

If you need to reach me and are lucky enough to have my cellphone number, that’s what you must use. See you later, folks!

Cool, uh? [en]

I have been asked for permission to reprint a few paragraphs excerpted from Adventures in India. I have also been asked for an interview by the local state radio – they are doing a show on weblogs.

PS: just got home from a few days in England. Keeping my offline life busy. Not much to blog about – and as I always say, “better not to blog than to blog just to blog.”

Do you know the line? “All my good intentions don’t add up to very much…” It’s been coming and going in my mind since 1997, probably. There is a mismatch between intentions and actions. Always has been. Always will be. The world is too small for our intentions. They’re always struggling to get out there … Continue reading "All My Good Intentions"

Le 3 février 2025, je rentre du judo et je descends récupérer Oscar à l’eclau. En arrivant, je suis surprise par un matou gris et blanc de l’autre côté de la vitre. Je le surprends … Continue reading "Un an de Juju"
