Heavens, what happened to blogging after 8pm? There was a week there where I seemed on a roll. I was also managing the rest of my life. And the small slice of work. It felt like it was working out.
And these days I’m just too exhausted for pretty much anything. I looked back to my Day One entries to see when I’d started writing like “exhausted” pretty much every day, and it goes back a couple of weeks (at least). What happened? It’s not even clear.
The days go by and I reach my evenings with barely the energy to crawl into bed. I’ve had the return of the headaches, too, after a tiring/tired week and a wonderful (but tiring) week-end at a singing workshop. Days become weeks, to use the worn out turn of phrase.
So, I remember that recovery isn’t linear. I dump links and quick thoughts in Mastodon and each time, regret that I don’t yet have a functional system to help me collect them into a daily or weekly digest-like blog post. My old blogging pal Les Orchard has some flavour of this going on his side, and I’m envious. (Happy for him, but wishing I had what I want too; doesn’t help that I haven’t even really had the energy to describe my vision for it properly, or poke around amongst existing WordPress plugins to see if there is a way to whip up some minimal viable version of it.)
Oscar hasn’t had another epileptic fit (fingers crossed). Pheno doesn’t work for him, so we upped the gabapentin and are crossing toes too. His bloodwork is honestly quite good for a gentleman his age, so it seems he hasn’t said his last word yet. I got a few videos of him in the garden chasing after Juju (who is getting rounder by the day).
It’s 9.30pm. Time to crawl into bed.

That runs the commands to fetch my posts & links and composes an initial draft for the weekly post. It does alright at faking my writing style – or at least getting close enough to annoy me into rewriting it when it doesn’t. But, the main thing is it gets me past a blank page.
Don’t be sheepish! Getting things to work, in any form, is great! I think I am missing a piece of understanding or two regarding what GitHub can do… in my mind it’s kind of like an svn repository but I keep stumbling upon things things that don’t fit with that model.
