I just thought I’d let you know that I’m gleefully ripping out the tables from my layout. You’re not going to see anything yet, because I have the wisdom to do it in a secret testing area.
If you think you might be of any help, you’re most welcome. I’m somewhat stuck in a few browser discrepancy issues.
Do you ever get caught up on heated discussions in chatrooms? It happens to me all the time – well, when I do chat. I don’t chat half as much as I used to.
I usually feel strongly for what I believe in, and I have the (annoying) habit of trying to dissect my opponent’s arguments into little bits and pieces, turn them around and counter-check them until I reach the lowest common premisse from which I can rebuild my point of view, dragging my discussion partner with me through each step until we finally agree. So I guess I’m a real pain in the neck to argue with ; )…
Well, yesterday I had a fiery discussion about web standards in one of my favourite chatrooms. The person I was talking with saw web standards not as a common base on which greater freedom, creativity, accessibility, and efficiency can be achieved, but as a quasi-totalitarian attempt to dumb down the web to a set of arbitrary regulations.
It was very frustrating. I don’t know if he didn’t understand me, if I didn’t understand him, if my fierceness in discussion put him off, or if I simply didn’t have the right arguments, but we ended up in a dead end.
I have a strong belief that even if it is not possible for everybody to agree on everything, two people with different opinions should be able to come to a point where the discussion allows them to understand why and how the other thinks like s/he does. And it usually comes down to diverging premisses – or “hypotheses” on the world, if you prefer.

I know it’s a bit frustrating for you, but I’ve been spoiling my french readers lately. If you feel like exploring, remember that all the links on your left will take you to English-land. Only the weblog and the writing section contain French (but you’ll also find some English there too if you are lucky…)

En regardant mon weblog de ces dernières semaines, j’y constate une double évolution: il y a plus d’écrits “personnels”, et le français y prend plus de place.
Mon weblog est une sorte de “cahier de maison” où viennent se greffer différentes choses que j’ai à dire. Je pense que je traverse une phase où je réfléchis passablement à ma vie. Je ne crois pas que ce soit une tendance définitive que je ma production “weblogesque” soit en train de prendre.
En ce qui concerne l’augmentation de la présence du français sur ces pages, c’est assez simple: j’ai enfin des lecteurs francophones réguliers. J’ai l’assurance que je n’écris pas dans le vide – c’est important pour moi de savoir que je suis lue.
J’ai aussi commencé à m’intéresser au sort du web francophone, et je vais lancer un site dans la langue de Molière (encore un peu d’attente… je suis aussi impatiente que vous de le voir!)
Mais plus important que ça (et l’on rejoint ici ma première constatation), j’ai réactivé ma “voix” française. Je n’ai pas les mêmes choses à dire en français et en anglais – et dans tous les cas, pas de la même façon. Et bien sûr, même si je suis très à l’aise en anglais, il m’est plus facile d’écrire en français – j’ai plus d’entraînement, simplement.

Should XHTML 1 should have been called HTML 5?
As I’m preparing for ripping out my layout tables and using nice CSS columns, I’m also pausing before the door of XHTML. Should I open it or not?

I knew that “wet sari sex” was one of the most popular search referrals I got. Or any combination thereof. A week or so back, I got “hairy males naked” – and today, I’m entering the French porn scene: “sex vieilles dames”.
Sometimes I really wonder how my rambling can keep them coming over for that kind of stuff.
